Kathleen Darcy

Kathleen Darcy’s encaustic art captures the fleeting beauty of Ireland’s hedgerows and the wild, shifting landscapes of the Burren’s boglands. Inspired by the changing seasons, her work layers molten beeswax, pigment, and resin to evoke the textures, colors, and organic rhythms of nature.
Spring’s fresh greens and delicate blossoms, summer’s wild tangle of briars and meadowsweet, autumn’s fiery bracken, and winter’s skeletal silhouettes all find expression in her richly textured surfaces.
The Burren’s boglands, with their misty expanses, ancient stones, and transient pools, are translated into fluid, atmospheric compositions where light and shadow play across wax-infused layers. Darcy’s process embraces both control and unpredictability, mirroring nature’s own cycles of growth and decay.
Her work invites the viewer to engage with the landscape in a tactile, immersive way, evoking a deep connection to the land’s quiet, untamed beauty and the ever-changing artistry of the natural world.
